What is a Sump Pump?
A sump pump, or submersible pump, is a mechanism that was designed to redirect stormwater from your basement to the nearest local detention pond. Virtually every residential plumbing system is constructed to capture and move stormwater in a fast and effective manner. A sump pump takes advantage of this, meaning that after the water enters the designated perimeter (typically, a spot in the building’s foundation), the water is taken to the sump pit where it can be handled away from the building.
Unlike other protective mechanisms, this system doesn’t fight the water but rather routes it, meaning no major excavations are required during the installation process. Also, in comparison to a membrane solution, this method requires minor maintenance. On the plus side, it doesn’t take long for the system to be serviced and installed.
Sump Pump Maintenance Service
As we already mentioned, a sump pump doesn’t require a lot of maintenance but what it does require is frequency. To ensure that everything is working correctly and that no seismic movement, clogs, and other issues are present, regularly scheduled maintenance is required.
After all, groundwater is full of minerals and sediments, meaning all sorts of issues might pop-up over time. Flushing the entire system and removing these deposits will not only prolong the life of your pump but will improve its performance. We’ve installed many sump pumps and know for a certain that there is no hard and fast rule for determining the lifespan of a sump pump.
What we do know, however, is that regularly scheduled maintenance will surely increase the average lifespan of your sump system. If you already have a sump pump installed and don’t want to install a new one, our experts will do their best to clean and repair the old one.
